Wellness In Tune
Wellness In Tune
Mission
Wellness In Tune (WIT) provides and supports healthy lifestyle choices for musicians. Through our revolutionary “telemedicine” and insurance program(s), WIT enhances access to affordable and comprehensive medical care. Through proactive health and wellness measures, WIT removes the fear of overwhelming costs associated with the modern health care system.
Who Are We
In 2010, during the filming of a documentary about the Charleston music scene, the founder and staff of The Music Initiative (TMI) became increasingly alarmed at the lack of affordable health care available to performing artists.
Through 2010 and 2011, they began researching healthcare programs throughout the state and nationwide. Most provide basic, local care to poverty-level customers, or offer a generic website where insurance can be purchased. In 2012, after initiating a focus group of 100 working musicians and promoting a progressive musical event to create awareness, The Music Initiative began to develop a plan to provide a nationwide health care and wellness program that was more manageable for musicians. After researching current health care laws and the change in health care laws anticipated in 2014, TMI developed a program for musicians and professionals in the entertainment industry, aptly entitled Wellness In Tune (WIT).
WIT works with both successful and rising local artists in the music industry, to allow working musicians and their families to achieve a healthy lifestyle while pursuing music careers. WIT’s intent is to offer wellness incentives, health insurance and health care alternatives that ultimately will bolster the entire music industry. WIT secured a $10,000 grant from Singing for Change, Jimmy Buffett’s charitable foundation, as its seed.
